Welcome to the Doctrine and Covenants by Robert C. Van Sweden

Welcome to the Doctrine and Covenants
When I began this project several years ago, I did not imagine preparing this material for each of the four Standard works of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I welcome those of you have followed this project since its inception and have increased your understanding of the scriptures, as I have. To those of you are new to the site, I hope you also have a rewarding experience.
There are some changes to our focus of on the Doctrine and Covenants, I hope you will find beneficial. With each of the preceding lessons, Holy Bible and Book of Mormon, we have followed a chapter and verse outline as these works lent themselves to this method of study. This is not the case with the Doctrine and Covenants, though many have chosen to address the book moving from section to section. The approach we will take is to address various themes in the Doctrine and Covenants, thereby drawing upon verses from all the sections in the book, to both clarify and amplify our understanding of the specific topic. I believe it will make for an unique approach to our study of the Doctrine and Covenants.
Each section will also be highlighted as it appears in the writing by the insertion of the various section headings so you may understand the historical background. The section and lesson where the heading can be located will be included at the conclusion of the last lesson.
Also new are various questions designed to promote the thought and inquiry of the learner. They are noted by the symbol [*], and are easily identified as they are set off from the rest of the material. As usual commentary is included in order to bring yet further clarification to the material as offered by scholars as well as myself.
I hope that as you proceed you will find the material to be both thought provoking and meaningful as we each seek to further our understanding of the Doctrine and Covenants.
